The latest from the duo of Andrew Chalk and Timo Van Luijk. These two artists should need no introduction to fans of drone and experimental music. Their long careers and numerous collaborations are well worth exploring. Usually released on Timo’s label La Scie Doree they ventured out onto a new label A Colourful Storm so this one has a bit wider distribution. A very pastoral release relying heavily on field recordings among the drones and metallics. There’s a large amount of tension created by the use of silence in this release punctuated by the sounds of nature. As always a very organic kind of droning I always wish there was an accompanying video of their records to see exactly what it is they are doing and playing. At times it’s very ghostly with dark drones with winds and waters pierced by strange whistling effects. Very relaxing and kind of gets the mind working while sipping the Sunday morning coffee. I could give the standard bullshit reviewer meaningless rundown of what this record “means” but to me, it’s just beautiful sounds. I don’t try and over-interpret it. Two darker long-form meditative tracks here. Comes with a nice 12″ card stock print.
You can get this from A Colourful Storm or if in the USA you can grab it at Forced Exposure
