Hot on the heels of their self titled first release finally making it to vinyl is the sophomore effort for the duo of Fred Laird and Mike vest and aided by Nick Raybould. Continuing where they left off, Pancosmology ups the volume and density of their sound. Again at times channeling Spacemen 3 while adding a thick wall of sound approach with guitars washing across the mix punctuated by electronics and grooving bass riffs. There are also a few ambient influenced tracks here where heavy use of echo and delay create a dense flowing landscape. Heavy use of distortion and reverb create a sense that we might be experiencing some kind of rise of the machines or at a minimum, a rebirth of The Stooges. I don’t know if its just me but as I write with the headphones on all I can think of is that the vinyl sounds so much more clean than the digital but that might just be perspective. Overall a solid second release. It takes a while for the brain to sort out some of the sonic layering but the more you listen and peel the layers back the better it gets.
