A collaboration between Fred Laird (Earthing Society, Tara Bulba, Empty House) and Mike Vest (Bong, Lush Worker, 11Paranoias, Mienakunaru), Artifacts & Uranium create dense layers of noise, reverberations, and drones to make music unlike no other, stuck somewhere between experimental noise and Spacemen 3. Released in 2021 as a cassette and recently re-released on vinyl With three long tracks, The fun begins with the title track. Picture the Spacemen’s “Revolution” slowed down to a glacial pace with lush reverberations, dense oscillations, and minimal electronic percussion. “The Birds Assembly” follows with its swirling intro then kicks in with some squealing guitars, Eastern strings, and Latin beat for 14 minutes of exquisite noise with a dub vibe. The Tao Of Midnight closes things out with theremin-like effects, gongs a plodding bass and otherworldly guitars for a completely unique sonic journey. This one’s a tough one to pigeonhole. IT’s not rowdy but it isn’t really relaxing either. I would describe it as a state of mind record in that you really need to be in a certain place mentally and then it all kind of falls together. Be on the lookout for their follow-up release which goes up for sale today
