Cardinal Fuzz, Little Cloud Records, and Fuzzed Up & Astromoon Records bring us a monster of a Summer LP from Toronto’s The John Denver Airport Conspiracy. Classic retro psych vibes combined with a fresh approach mixing elements of the Stones, BJM, and The Byrds. Light enough for those Summer vibes without being overly sugary like a pop-psych band. You get a bit of that classic jangly guitar sound that seems to be somewhere between acoustic and electric with layered vocals and a steady beat spread out over 16 shortish tracks. The record jumps right into it with the large “The Big Classic” and basically doesn’t stop. I think my favorite tunes on the LP however are when they take their foot off the gas ever so slightly on tracks like “Richie Says”, “Comin’ Through!”, “Upside”, and “Because You’re Told To” These tracks remind me a bit of another great summer record, Dark Bird’s “Out Of Line” with its subtle Floyd overtones. But if you’re into the more upbeat tunes there’s plenty of great stuff on here for road trips or just dancing in the living room beer in hand. Mostly sold out but is worth hunting down at this point.
