The Third Sound’s fifth full length was released not long ago on Fuzz Club records. The band flies somewhat under the radar but the releases are always on point with a kind of subdued psych vibe. maybe more than a touch of “Madchester” in their sound? With The Third Sound you not going to get lost in any crazy guitar feedback or freeform jams. The sound is always clear and well produced. The Third Sound is headed up by Hákon Aðalsteinsson who is the guitarist for The Brian Jonestown Massacre and formerly played with Singapore Sling so get a bit of that sound that you might expect those influences to bring. The album starts off somewhat upbeat with some danceable tracks like “Your Love is Evol” and “This Is The Only Way I Know” and continues much in the same vein but gets progressively darker. I have to confess that I don’t find this as a “lighter” release as I have read. It’s fairly somber especially when you get to the last two tracks “Not Even Jesus” and “I Don’t Need Anything Anymore’ the latter of which is a gloomy acoustic number.

I really like this release. I play The Third Sound records I have quite often, more so than a lot of the more popular Fuzz Club releases. And this one will certainly join that rotation. The music is always solid and hits that sweet dark spot while not being a complete downer.
