Lately I have been catching up on some of the releases that I had neglected to review from earlier in the year. So I wanted to get a few words in on some or the better releases that I had missed. It was only recently that I received this gem from Sulatron records. Stranded On the Green is the eighth full length from this Portuguese outfit that consists primarily of multi instrumentalist Luis Simões. Owing mostly to classic 60’s prog-psych like early Pink Floyd, and even the Beatles, Saturnia create a kind of spaced out vibe utilizing sitars, electronics and primal drumming and a solid basslines. Once in a while they leave the 60’s for a long jam reminiscent of Electric Moon like on “Smoking In The Sun” or the thirteen minute “Super Natural”. Stranded On The Green blends the best of classic psych with the heavy grooves of some of todays better space rock outfits. I don’t see this one getting a lot of mentions but it’s defiantly on of the better releases this year.
Available from Sulatron in Europe and Infinite Spin in the USA
