This one is quite a departure and will catch many people off guard. The falling completely strips down the sound of the band and musical approach. Think of Spindrift or Federale meets something darker with the deep vocals that might recall Swans or Nick Cave. You get the Western twang on the guitars, harmonica, strings and a far more acoustic approach and you even get a couple torch songs. As is quite common these days, the album is born out of the frustrations and confines of the pandemic world and recorded between two home studios.. I really wanted to like this one when i first heard it but wasn’t quite feeling it, but after several plays it’s really growing on me. Sometime we want our favorite bands to sound a certain way and we don’t allow them room to mix it up a bit. I really enjoy the middle of the LP most with the outstanding tracks “And I…” and “A Sorrowful Race” which lead into the more raucous “For You Are The One” This isn’t going to be for everyone but if you work your way through a few listens it starts to make sense as you begin to place it in a different context.
