Perth Australia’s Mt. Mountain occupy a unique space in the psych world. Straddling somewhere between the Dead and Krautrock. Neither jam band nor Space rock nor electronic experimenters yet utilizing bits and pieces of each to weave a tapestry that effectively borrow from many styles and works them into cohesive albums. Centre is Mt. Mountain’s fourth full length and is out now on Fuzz Club Records. At their core they are basically a jam band that takes on many forms from influences such as Kikagaku Moyo, Moon Duo to the more relaxed improv approach of the Myrrors. Centre kicks off with the quick pace and motorik feel of “Tassels” . Tracks like “Hands Together” “The List”, and “Aplomb” really emphasize the jam band side of the band with a familiar guitar noodling style one might hear on a Garcia People’s record. On tracks like “Dawn’ , and “Two Minds” the pace slows down a bit and you can pick out influences such as the Myrrors and that desert vibe. “Peregrination” picks up where we started off on “Tassels” and flows into “Second Home” before we close with the more experimental “Deluge” with it’s slow pace and tribal toms. Overall Centre is Mt. Mountains most polished recording. It’s more focused on the playing and song structure then say, “Dust” from the lp Dust which was a much more “desert rock” inspired outing or Cosmos Terros with the freak out jams and distortion. The record more of a progression from their previous LP Golden Rise.

Available from Fuzz Club Records and numerous distros.
