Vyvyd is the fourth album from Venice’s New Candys following the successful Bleeding Magenta. Expanding on their sound with a new lineup the band combines aspects of modern psych, shoegaze and pop adding more electronic elements, pronounced drumming and solid production to create a very polished release. The album explores multiple styles from the JAMC styled “Zyko” to a more shoegaze approach with guitar work reminiscent of 80s Factory acts like The Wake on tracks like “Q&K” and “Begin Again”. But New Candys are at their best when they are using that driving beat and guitar oriented approach that we are all familiar with on tracks like “Twin Mime”, “Vyvyan Rising’, and Evil Evil. Another solid effort here through each of the ten tracks. Hope to see these guys on the road this year.
