Since 2018’s Alienation I have been anxiously awaiting the follow-up LP by Greece’s Alien Mustangs. While still maintaining a fair amount of debt to the influences of Loop and Spacemen 3, Beat of The Earth has a much more spacey feel to it. “Sound Of No Future” kicks things off with a light spacey atmospheric groove with plenty of echo effects to roll around in your brain. “Fairy Meadows” follows with an A&E chord intro on the organ (think Spiritualized) and kicks into a Motorik beat with some jam-band style guitar work as the sound builds and swells over its 9 minutes including a darker, slower, decent for the final 2 minutes. “Illusions” is a bit more retro in its approach. Heavy on the keyboards and slightly distorted vocals this one has a bit more 60’s influence on it including a very Birds-like 12 string electric sound. Track 4 “Secret Days” is a much more fuzzy piece highlighting those Spacemen influences. “Darklands” follows and again maintains the fuzz in a much more Loop influenced piece with the same type of hypnotic repetition, a motorik beat, and some Kosmische style jamming. through its 7 minutes. “Waiting The Dawn” closes out the LP with another classic psych style influenced piece. Beat Of The Earth is another excellent effort from Alien Mustangs. A bit cleaner sounding, better production, and overall, a move to some more classic Kosmische influences to diversify the sound a bit. Can’t wait for the vinyl. Copies of this one will be hard to find in no time so get your pre-orders in.
