If 2021 was good for nothing else it brought us two killer releases from Jeffrey Alexander + The Heavy Lidders. The group is made up of Jeffrey Alexander from Dire Wolves, Drew Gardner and Jesse Shepard of Elkhorn, and Scott Verrastro of Kohoutek. Continuing on a theme from the earlier release we get a more free-form version of the band while still maintaining a lot of that same Crazy Horse reference point. The songs here are strung out a bit longer and a little less tight but more focused on the jam. This record feels a bit more spiritual or mystical. While the first release had a bit more polish and Byrds-like jangle at times, this one is a bit harder yet still very laid back if that makes any sense, often with two guitars soloing at the same time. Elixor of life is just now starting to gain some buzz and it’s almost gone so grab it while you still can. If “earthy crunchy” jamming is your thing it’s a must-have.
Released in the USA by Centripetal Force and in the UK by Cardinal Fuzz (sold out)
