It’s been kind of a strange Summer. Delays at pressing plants and 8 month pre-orders which are kind of insane has put me far behind on new arrivals. Not to mention I have been doing allot of listening outside my usual parameters. But I do have two newish items to discuss before those pre-orders start rolling in. The first of which is the aforementioned LP is what I would describe as a bit of a psych folk super group. Comprised of Jeffrey Alexander of Dire Wolves, Drew Gardner and Jesse Shepard of Elkhorn, and Scott Verrastro of Kohoutek. The album kicks off with a strong Floyd/Crazy Horse vibe on “Beowulf’s Trip” with a nice acoustic guitar with some psych guitar work on top for a very laid back vibe. Grateful Dead tune “Black Peter” follows with some guest vocal work from Marissa Nadler. “Herb of Grace” and “Dark Ships in the Forest” bring a strong Byrds vibe to the party. Carousel of Flowers brings back the Neil Young style guitar work and a heavier tone while still maintaining the lighter vocals. Audubon Trooper brings on a much stronger psych approach in it’s 9 minutes of jamming before we close with the Gene Clark tune “Strength of Strings”.
Definitely a strong record if the mentioned influences are something that interest you.
