A trio of new tape releases kicking off the new year from Misophonia, the UK tape label specializing in psych, noise, and experimental music. Last year brought us some excellent tunes and the new year is starting off strong.

First up is Dan Wilson and The Counterfactuals. Primarily a spoken word album with instrumentation by a number of eclectic UK artists. In many ways reminds me of some old 80″s cassettes I used to have called film Noire American Style. Dank jazz, sonic exploration, and at times recalling a bit of Current 93. The focus is always on the spoken word.

Next up is Earthball – Fruiting Bodies. This Canadian outfit defies all genres. Jazz psych-punk maybe? These guys are pulling in all kinds of influences to weave a chaotic tapestry of noise and angst. Distorted vocals, squealing guitars occasionally slowing it down to a crawl. For fans of Butthole Surfers or maybe Scratch Acid.

Last up is is Fingerwolf – Working For The Black Gas. The debut full length from Buckinghamshire’s Jon Dickenson. The sound here harkens back to the 80’s with touches of modern Vaporwave. A jazzy kind of electronic soundtrack vibe.

Each of these cassette releases is expected to be released on January 29th. Keep tabs on their Facebook and or Bandcamp sites for further details.
