So I saw this release popping up on my Facebook feed and I have to confess I totally ignored it thinking it was some radio program that I didn’t have time for and it was advertising Psychedelic Sangha which is something I was totally not aware of so I kept letting it slide by. I was certainly missing out. I’m not one for digital releases but in this year of strangeness and with so many artists facing limitations on what they can do I have learned that I have been ignoring a lot of great tunes and I have started building a nice collection of Bandcamp digital releases thanks to those wonderful artist-friendly Fridays. So while I still don’t know what they are “Psychedelic Sangha offers spiritual-arts programming and peer-to-peer support for integrating and exploring non-ordinary states of consciousness.” This release is a 51-minute piece of meditative spiritual exploration called “Born In The Kali Yuga” with spoken word to begin and end the piece by Erik Davis, Visuals by Aubrey Nehring, and music by Prana Crafter. This has to be one of my favorite Prana Crafter works yet. Although it’s one 59 minute track you can consider it to have several different pieces within. If you are a fan of the classic Popol Vuh albums and their spiritual orientations this is something you should check out. Sol is in top form here with his cosmic noodling, atmospheric loops, and echos. There are however a few moments with some volume and feedback to break things up a bit as well as some more classically Kosmische music influenced parts. I have to say my favorite part is the guitar solo and some brief chaos 32 minutes in. Don’t pass on this one if you are a Prana Crafter fan. You won’t be disappointed. I highly recommend listening in one sitting while in the proper mindset.
