Generally, I try to stay away from re-releases but being new to the Zone Six experience and the fact that there are bonus tracks I’ll give it a go. Acid Test Recordings is re-releasing this classic CD from 2003 as a 2LP set. Zone Six started with members of Liquid Visions and plays a type of space-rock classic rock hybrid. Think 1970’s Pink Floyd. So you are going to get the organ jams, trippy experimental effects, and long guitar freakouts.
The opening track “Score Trek” clocks in at 20 minutes beginning with a slow buildup of sounds and effects. About three minutes in the train slowly leaves the station and at 7 minutes in, we start to pick it up a bit when the bass kicks in with a slow rhythmic drumming and some heavy wah-wah use. Thirteen minutes in and the rocket launches us into space with some insane jamming. Track two is another long-player at fifteen minutes. Again this one starts off slow and spacey but gets going pretty quick with a much more funky beat to it and some classic 70’s wah pedal. “Psss…” takes us into that more experimental Floyd influenced area with the key sweeps and sound effects. “Bauchfellhavarie” takes us even further off the grid. Think really early Klaus Schulze or that first Tangerine Dream LP. “The Gotthun” brings us a bit closer back to earth in that there is some actual drumming for a bit. Which brings us to the two Bonus tracks. “First Trip To Prög Stäge” a killer live jam extending thirteen minutes. “Cookie Dose” finishes things off with another long jam. If 70’s style extended Krautrock\Prog jams are your thing there is a lot here for you enjoy.
