Somewhere between psych-rock and gothic post-punk lies Servo. This French trio cranks out the dark jangly riffs amidst a postapocalyptic backdrop of fuzz and dystopian gloom. At times very post punk-like and at time drenched in shoegaze like reverb, “Alien” takes the listener to many different points of reference without ever losing its grip on its dark roots and driving rhythms. The standout track for me was Pyre which is sort of a hybrid of Ride and Red Lorry Yellow Lorry. This one is meant to be played loud and has received a number of plays around here.
