Soden are a three piece post\metal instrumental outfit from Worcester England that was formed in 2014. Onwards.. Towards The Tundra is their second full length effort and is the follow up to their initial effort “Led by Foxes” CD. The vinyl edition as reviewed here has been released by Dirty Filthy Records. It comes packaged with some beautiful artwork, a nice print insert and pressed on 140g ‘Mr. Blue Sky’ transparent vinyl,limited to 250 copies.
“Onwards” definitely comes through on its promise to be “A journey across a frozen landscape.” Heavy on the bass and featuring a pounding rhythm section “Onwards” trudges through its 8 tracks at a glacial pace. If you like you post rock low and slow than this is for you. Nothing too fancy here just good old loud and steady post/metal gloom. Standout tracks on this release include Towards the Tundra which ebbs and flows along building up only to slow down and rebuild again through it’s nearly 7 minute course. A personal favorite here is Swims With Turtles which will have you bobbing your head and reaching for the volume. Overall this is a satisfying release and remains strong through all 8 tracks.
