Edena Gardens set the bar pretty high with their self titled first release in 2022. The follow up continues the trend. Made up of members of Causa Sui and Papir, two other standouts bands on the El Paraiso label, Edena Gardens explores an expansive, textured, landscape. One thing that truly rises above here is the amazing guitar work of Papir’s Nicklas Sørensen which simply soars. Another high point on this record is the clarity of sound. Every guitar note, drum hit and bass line is clearly discernable. The ambiance and reverb create a really open and airy feel even when things start to get a tad dirtier on “The Veil” or a little bluesy on “Dreich”. “Ascender” is a short more experimental piece with a bit more ambiance and some reverse effects. The music of Edena Gardens is really hard to pinpoint or classify. I guess my best description would be jazzy drumming mixed with top notched guitar noodling. As high as the bar was set with their first release I think Agar exceeds the debut. Just an outstanding record. A new live record of theirs is coming out soon and I cant wait to hear it. It will be interesting to see how much, if any, of the clarity is lost.
