Time to get your motorik beat on with the latest Minami Deutsch release. Well maybe for a few tracks anyways. There’s a bit of a different feel with this release. It has a more industrial tint to it. Not in the sense of harsh industrial music but in some of the techniques employed here. Odd grinding noises on “Still Foggy”, the simplistic motorik rhythm driving “Your Pulse” punctuated by the heavy fuzz guitar and breathing sound seems a bit of a new direction. As usual there is a good variety of moods and beats on this record from the peppy staccato of “Grumpy Joa” the Rolling tempo of “Pueblo” to the gentle acoustic “Interpreters Of Forest” the album presents us with a variety of emotions. While this provides for a number of nice moments I think Minami Deutsch is at its best with the quirky motorik beats like on the title track, or “Stellar Waffle” but they also excel when the pick up th volume and intensity as on “Wherabouts”. I’ve done several reviews in the last few days and there seems to be a trend that continues here with an out of place experimental track to close an album. kind of goes against the standard of closing out strong in my opinion. The album closes with an ambient /piano piece with odd whistles and wind effects which seems a bit out of place as a closer that would perhaps best serve as an earlier interlude. The album however is quite strong. Hopefully they show up at a festival I attend this year because their live game is outstanding.
