Sun Dial is the main vehicle of Gary Ramon for releasing his unique brand of dark psychedelia. The British outfit has been around since 1990’s Other Way Out in a variety of configurations and often changing their sound as new members come and go. Mind Control was original released in 2012 on Tangerine records and is now out for a repress with Sulatron Records as an expanded 2 LP set with additional bonus tracks from the same sessions as well as a number of unreleased tracks from the same period. This record is a lot of fun because it takes so many different paths and yet somehow doesn’t stray to far from the main sound. Landing somewhere between classic sixties psych, a slowed down Spacemen 3 and classic kosmische music there is a serious melding of some outstanding influences here. At times quite dark blending chorale voices with experimental electronics with loads of reverb, tremolo and phasing. Other times it’s straight up stoner rock. Before you know it your back in the early seventies prog rock mode with heavy guitars and and classic keys. You even get a classic Roxy Music cover “In Every Dream A Heartache”. If you have the original there is definitely enough here to require another copy.
The 2LP set comes packaged in yellow\black splatter 180 gr. vinyl or a 2-CD gatefold digisleeve. Both are limited to 500 (The CD contains 2 extra track)
Release date in October from Sulatron Records
