Back in the day when I started my original mail order, the main reason it was called Ominous Drone was my desire to base my selection primarily on drone music and that was mostly inspired by my new found love of drones that I had discovered the first time I listened to Mirror. The sounds take me back to a time when I was a kid and I would lay in the grass in a large field and just stare at the sky and listen to the smaller prop planes that would fly into the local airport. That oscillating sound they made was music to my ears. So I was just giddy with excitement when I saw that Mirror would be releasing a new LP, their first new music in 15 years.

Some Days…. picks up right where they left off. Mirror is primarily Andrew Chalk and Christoph Heemann. They are joined on this release by Vikki Jackman and Timo Van Luijk. The release feature to tracks, part 1 and part 2. Low rumbling drones in the background, bowed metals, and distorted phased whirling wind sounds. At times it sounds like planes overhead or trucks crossing a bridge weaved in amongst the pulsating ebb and flow of the metallic vibrations. This won’t appeal to everyone, it’s not ambient music like Eno it’s sound exploration dealing more with textures and oscillations. SIde one is more pastoral and higher pitched and ghostly and you can make out piano and what sounds like treated vocals. Side two has a much lower end and a darker machine-like sound to it. This is an outstanding slab of vinyl if drones are your thing.
