Straddling the line somewhere between earthy-crunchy Dead-style jam band and Stoner rock, Foggy Bog Eyes is the first release from Australian outfit Hypnotic floor. Leading off with a strange backward intro called “Flotenstrudel” I was expecting a very strange journey but the initial track is a bit misleading. “Static Wheel” gets us going with a bluesy groove that alternates between the slow jam and the hard stoner rock a few times through its cycle. “Fall” is an 11:00 minute jam song that starts off in a more traditional style but evolves into somewhat of a dance track before it’s done. Imagine a New Order drum beat with jam band guitars layered on top. “Foggy Bog Eyes” eyes is a track that, for me, recalls bands like Wet Tuna or Garcia Peoples. Things slow down a bit for “Oakman” which is a much hazier groove. The album closes out with the standout track “Woods” combining much darker basslines, heavy fuzz, and different style vocals than any other track on this release. Overall a pretty good release and definitely one to throw on for those lazy days of Summer.
